| My old ski shell and fleece are ready to to retire but I'm not. |

I'm willing to spend a few dollars on staying dry and warm but it's been 5+ years since I went technology shopping on jackets. Your favorites and not so favorites? Is it true Northface quality is done for? Best deal's you've found in town? I'd like to find a mid and outer layer combo that'll do the trick hiking rainy trails this fall, snowshoeing and skiing this winter, and backpacking come spring and summer. Dreamer? Help? |

| My Bandit saga |
[Nov. 9th, 2009|07:20 am] |
| [ | Feeling |
| | hopeful | ] | So.
Remember how I had that problem with the broken overflow pipe?
Well, it broke down on me again, and again, and one time it even broke down on its way back from the dealers after they cleaned it out again! So finally my patience wore out and I took it back to them and told them to do whatver they had to do to make it work. Keep it for as long as they needed to if that meant I'd get it back with the problem resolved.
Plan A was to buy a secondhand tank. They couldn't find one.
Plan B was to buy a brand new tank. The bike's so old, they couldn't find one.
Plan C was to do what they originally said was too difficult - Repair the broken overflow pipe.
So that's what they did and now, a month later, she's still running sweet. The mechanic did the most awesome repair I've ever seen and he had to do it all through the opening for the petrol cap! In the end the pipe was too broken to repair so he had to replace it and tack a new one in place and, wow, seriously. You can barely see the repair. A couple of scuffs in the paint around the overflow hole and that's it. Brilliant piece of work and the Bandit's been sweet ever since.
He also took the rubber overflow out from where the previous lying scum of an owner had hidden it so it could run free, only to discover that Suzuki had designed it so that anything that came out of it dripped... Straight onto the exhaust! Who the hell thought THAT was a good idea? One crack in the pipe and you're pissing out petrol onto a hot exhaust! I was riding a bike that could potentially have erupted into a fireball. ~Eyerolls~ Anyway, he tucked it away against the swingarm so now it just drips onto the road.
So today she's in for her first big service. I've put 7000 miles on her since I got her so I've asked them to look at EVERYTHING. The engine feels, frankly, like it's full of gravel, which is no great surprise after it was so abused. Water in the carbs four, five times. I kinda lost count.
So today she's in for a full service, a replacement fuse as my lights aren't working right (The middle "running light" option doesn't work anymore), and a replacement chain-tightening nut (I dunno the right phrase for it) as the other is all worn and scored and near rounded off.
FINALLY! I have a running, dependable bike. Come the bike show later this month I'm going to get her some nice little things. A better seat, some crash bungs...
Hopefully the end of my long, somewhat gory saga with my '98 model Bandit S 1200 is in sight! |

To be fair about my paralyzed reaction to this sort of contact, I had no idea how to deal with boys, despite being about 13 and having almost only male friends. Up until that year (when Gareth noticed I was female), I was...um... I had a singular style, and never had to think about boys beyond how much I enjoyed hanging out with them and playing Ren and Stimpy on Sega Genesis.
In order to draw this comic, I did a little research into bottle-base sidewalks. They were made to illuminate the basements below the city buildings, because NYC is so crammed that it's mostly built up and down. Turns out, there are a TON in downtown Manhattan, where I was a kid. They exist in other cities too, but they aren't that common, anymore. What's really sad is that a lot of them are wearing away-- the prisms busting out and breaking. But look: aren't they fascinatingly beautiful? |

Where can I get good congee in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area? I've fallen hard for it but it's a pain going all the way across town to the Fubonn area to get it. |

| Any casual tennis players? |
[Nov. 8th, 2009|05:41 pm] |
Hey, I'm looking for someone to hit some balls with a few mornings a week (MWF, preferably) on the Stott center courts. I'm not ranked or anything like that, and even though my dad worked as a tennis pro, I haven't played for years. Maybe you're even new to tennis yourself but have always wanted to give it a try? I've got rackets, balls, etc. positiveghagle(at)gmail(dot)com if anyone's interested. Thanks!
